Upton I 1 Def Lifespan approach/terminology/psychological theories/Upton: the understanding of a person’s development through life from birth to death. Upton I 2 Def innate/Upton: “innate” refers to characteristics believed to exist at birth due to genetic factors; something that is instinctive, not learned. Def tabula rasa/Upton: from the Latin meaning “blank slate”. This is the phrase that John Locke used to refer to a child’s mind at birth, which he believed was unformed and featureless.
